Outreach East is a project co-funded by the European Social Fund (ESF) and the London Councils Grants Committee, which will engage economically inactive and long term unemployed people resident in Barking and Dagenham, Havering, Newham, Redbridge and Waltham Forest from the following target groups:

·       People from ethnic groups with low labour market participation rates

    ·         Women facing barriers to employment

    ·         Parents with long term work limiting health conditions

    ·         People with mental health needs

    ·         Homelessness and/or People recovering from drug and/or alcohol addiction or misuse

The project will provide support to improve the employability, health, life skills, financial and social inclusion of participants through the delivery of targeted outreach initial diagnostic assessment, action planning, personalised 1-1 information, advice and guidance, cognitive behavioural therapy, money management advice, social activities, soft skills, vocational, functional skills, IT and/or ESOL training, work placements or volunteering access to job vacancies, self-employment and/or enterprise support, support for up to 26 weeks when in work and access to further education or training. 

(Just to clarify, the entirety of the support mentioned above is offered by the project as a whole. While a number of the partners listed below offer most of this service, the need for certain more specialised aspects may need a referral to a different delivery partner)


The project is led and delivered by RedbridgeCVS in partnership with 9 delivery partners:

    ·         Gingerbread

    ·         Madas

 To be eligible for the project you must be:

    ·         19 or over

    ·         Not on the Work Programme or any other mainstream programme

    ·         Not working

    ·         Eligible to live and work in the UK (leave to remain must be at least 3+ years)         AND...in one of the three categories below:

    ·        Unemployed for more than 6 months continuously if you are under 25

    ·         (OR)

    ·         Unemployed more than 12 months continuously if you are over 25

    ·         (OR)

    ·         Economically inactive which includes looking after family and home, in part-time education, long-term sickness and retired but want to work

Do you need help to find a job?

  • Support to gain a great CV

  • Training and exam preparation for Maths and English

  • Qualifications in Food Safety L2 OR Health and Safety (with Care) L2 – Interactive online courses on tablets or PC at the centre or at home

  • Access to employer vacancies

  • Help with interview techniques, including mock interviews

  • Work experience

  • Progression Routes into other courses


Enrolment Appointment

Please bring the following proof::

  1. Evidence of address within Barking and Dagenham in last 6 months (such as a utility bill, bank statement, council tax letter);

  2. Right to live/work in the UK (British passport/ ILR document or if limited with an expiry date greater than 36months from the date you register)

  3. Employment status (National Insurance number + if in receipt of JSA, IS, ESA or UC a letter or document from JCP or DWP. If not in receipt of employment benefits benefits please bring a written referral from a careers service, from your doctor, social worker or priest stating this)


Course and Support Information

At least 6 hours of IAG will be given to all students (please see the ‘Do you need help to find a job?’ section above) and appropriate progression routes (voluntary placements, jobs or further training) will be found and made available wherever possible.
