Latest update - New Interactive, Online HABC courses in Foundaton Food Safety and Health & Safety (with optional Care) - May 2013 (see below*)





*We are now offering recognised L2 interactive, online Foundation Food Safety and Health and Safety (with 2 optional Care Modules) courses.

These will available for course participants at particular day or 2 day training sessions at Harmony House and possibly at certain children's centres.


Certificates gained through successful course completion are very valuable on your CV and in getting jobs in the catering, hospitality, childcare, retail, care, etc industries.

With the accreditation of the New Cambridge Progression Awards in Maths and English we are now in a position to offer smaller more manageable Maths and English (reading and writing) qualifications at level 1 and 2 (with some at Entry 3). Presently these are as paper tests but will soon be available as online exams.


Please contact me about when you can come in to do an initial (10min) and then diagnostic for either maths, English or both. Each diagnostic test should take about 1hr30min, which will give us an indication of your current level. We have the computer room open most of the time to help you prepare for the tests.


To help future job prospects, upload your CV to the DirectGov site so that potential employers can contact you about jobs. Alternatively, if you give us the info we need either handwritten, or electronically when you arrive, we can do this while you are doing the tests.


I am generally available to help you go through the test and get you going so that you can achieve these new Cambridge Progression Awards. However, please send me an email or text on the JSCO mobile on 07791471776. In the text/email please let me know when you plan to arrive so I can prepare for your visit.



Important: Unfortunately we have had to put on hold the deliivery of our ECDL (Computer) qualifications due to a lack of recent interest!


 JobShop Community Outreach - Job Finding Support, Literacy, Numeracy, ICT and ESOL



Participants should be:

  1. over 19 years of age. However provision can be offered to lone parents or those with special circumstances if only 18 or 19.
  2. resident in Barking and Dagenham (i.e. living in a LBBD ward)
  3. have the right to live permanently in teh UK and work (have a NI No.)
  4. be economically inactive (not job hunting, possibly receiving benefits) OR
  5. be unemployed (in receipt of JSA) - this includes those working less than 8 hours/week or studying less than 16 hours/week.


Harmony House Dagenham will be running Enrolments / Initial Assessments / IAG training on the last Thursday of every month unless indicated on this site. Therefore the next enrolment, induction is on the 29th March 2012, then the 26th April, 31st May and so on. This will be in room G7 (9.30am - 2.30pm)

If you would like to attend please confirm attendance bringing proof of:

  1. residency in Barking and Dagenham (such as a utility bill),
  2. identity (National Insurance number and birth certificate or passport or driver's licence)
  3. right to live and work in the UK (passport or ILR letter from the home office and your National Insurance number)

Please note that even if Initial Assessment / Induction days days have passed we still may have places in classes so please call to check availability.

Harmony House Dagenham is offering an ESOL programme between April 2012 and March 2014.

As part of the programme for those who who need it we offer Int / Up Intermediate (L1/L2) ESOL classes on Tuesday and Thursday mornings from 9.30am to 12.30pm (6 hours). The first class starts on Tuesday the 17th April and finishes on Thursday 19th July.

For those needing help in Numeracy (Maths), English Literacy (reading) and ICT (computers) workshops and 1-2-1 support for drop in sessions in our ICT suite (a supportive environment in which to do these largely online courses. These drop in sessions will be at the same time on a Monday and Wednesday, possibly being available from 1.30 to 3.30pm on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons as well.

The days and times all these sessions run are subject to change. Should this be the case these will be indicated on this page.

This class and support is free of charge for those who are eligible. (please see eligibility criteria above). Students need to commit to courses and may be fined if they do not complete without a valid reason. Also, students are expected to buy 2 books which cost £30. The student book can be bought back at the end of the course depending on its condition. The classes will run for up to 13 weeks at which point the students will either do a reading or listening and speaking Level 1 or 2 Cambtridge ESOL/OCR exam. Some students may alternatively do an OCR numeracy exam or ICT qualification from the BCS.

At least 6 hours of IAG will be given to all students and appropriate progression routes (jobs or for some, further training) will be found and made available where possible.
